Is winter a good time to schedule a photo session? | Columbia Park's Golden Light

Reuniting for Updated Headshots

I last had a portrait session with Jarom over four years ago for his senior session! I was thrilled when he reached out for updated headshots and men's portrait photography, and we agreed that a mini-session would be the perfect solution to capture the new moments.

We chose the scenic Columbia Park, near the Playground of Dreams, as our location. This spot proved ideal for a winter photo session, boasting trees still lush with foliage and leaves—a rare sight that made it seem like we weren't in the midst of winter. This session is blessed with gorgeous golden light, adding a warm glow to the photos and enhancing the natural light portrait photography style we aimed for.

Jarom's photogenic nature made the session a breeze, allowing me to capture various poses. He's always easy to work with, leaving me with numerous images I'm eager to share. Below are some highlights from our outdoor portrait session, showcasing creative photography ideas for men's portraits that leverage the unique backdrop and lighting conditions.

Should you schedule your photo session in the Winter?

This mini-session with Jarom provided updated headshots and demonstrated how the right location, timing, and subject can create stunning men's portrait photography, even in the winter. I often have clients question if they should schedule their session in the winter or wait until spring. The highlights from this session show that even if your session is in the middle of winter, you can still end up with photos full of gorgeous light and warmth, comparable to any session shot in the spring.
